Training for journalists

I have many years of experience in training journalists in places where reporting the news isn’t always easy.

My work has taken me to countries like Algeria, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kosovo, and Indonesia.

"I want to thank you Martha for your energy and enthusiasm in our training. We have learnt so much about mobile journalism and about social media. Above all it helped me to report stories on the ground and real life". Newspaper journalist, Algeria

I lead training programmes in all aspects of TV production, social media, radio, web writing and documentary and programme making.

Recently I have been working with journalists in Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. The aim is to support them to amplify unheard voices and issues, with compelling storytelling and social media posts.

“Martha is a dynamic and knowledgeable multimedia production professional whose engaged, energetic style of training encourages journalists to push the borders of their comfort zone and bring about change in their production routines".

Rita Ruduša, The Baltic Centre for Media Excellence.

My work with the Serbian minority media across five years  in Kosovo achieved the highest rating from evaluators at USAID. I helped establish a solid, factual news base in TV stations recently expelled from Pristina.

"
Martha worked on both sides of the ethnic divide in Kosovo and achieved a great deal in improving journalistic and technical standards. Martha was an excellent trainer and contributed much towards the success of USAID's media development work in Kosovo".
Andrew Clayton, Chief of Party, IREX, Kosovo.

In Belarus I worked with independent journalists in a challenging political environment.

"In Belarus and Lithuania Martha led different courses from 'Training of Trainers' to TV journalism and documentary making, to writing for the web. She helped launch a groundbreaking new youth magazine show and her work was highly valued and appreciated by her trainees".
Ellie Haworth, Middle East and Europe Head of Projects, BBC Media Action.

In Ethiopia I helped a TV station add original content to its nightly news.

“I would like to personally thank Martha for all the work she did in speeding up the tempo of the news crew in creation and execution of stories and Danny and I have taken the responsibility of continuing this energy.” Dula Tessema, Arts TV, Addis Ababa.

In India my graduates have achieved excellent positions in India's burgeoning TV news environment.

I have also worked in several university settings, helping students learn the craft of storytelling. I have lectured at both BA and MA level.

"Hi Martha. Just wanted to thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone and laying the groundwork for my journalism skills today. What you taught me about multimedia methods have stuck with me and I now work in a newspaper in Norway!".
